Drax Power Station

North Yorkshire, UK

Situated in North Yorkshire, Drax Power Station has the highest generating capacity of any power station in the United Kingdom and Western Europe. The coal-fired station was commissioned and built in two stages, the first in 1974 and the second twelve years later in 1986. Constructed in Teesside on a 32-acre site at the Wilton Chemical Complex, Teesside Power station is a combied cycle gas-fired power station. It was the largest gas fired power station in Europe with a generating capacity of 1875 megawatts.

Hartlepool Power Station

Hartlepool, UK

Hartlepool is a nuclear power station on the north east coast of England, on the mouth of the River Tees in County Durham.

It is capable of supplying electricity to over 2 million UK homes and has a net electrical output of 1,190 megawatts. Electricity is produced through the use of two advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGR) and Hartlepool was the third nuclear power station in the United Kingdom to use AGR technology. Hartlepool was also the power station to be built so close to a major urban area.

The station started producing electricity in 1983 and is now owned and operated by EDF Energy.
